Heritage Roofing & Integrated Solar at St Albans Cathedral
Assured Roofing & Specialist Leadworks recently completed roofing works on a property within the grounds of St Albans Cathedral.
Due to the property’s location on historic monument land, the project was carried out under strict requirements. The aim was to bring the roof up to modern standards while retaining a finish that remained sympathetic to its historic surroundings and the neighbouring Cathedral.
The existing, tired lead roof was stripped off and replaced with a new Canadian slate roof. Canadian slate provided the traditional appearance required for the setting, helping the finished roof sit naturally alongside the historic character of the Cathedral grounds.
Integrated solar panels were also incorporated directly into the new roof. This allowed modern solar technology to be introduced as part of the roofing system, rather than compromising the traditional appearance of the property.
The finished project combines a new Canadian slate roof with integrated solar, bringing the property up to modern standards while maintaining the heritage look on the Cathedral side.
